South Florida: The Epicenter of Tax Return Identity Theft

The issue of tax return identity theft is so prevalent in South Florida, that Senator Bill Nelson has tasked the U. S. Treasury Inspector General to conduct a study into the problem.  Three out of five false tax returns originate in Florida, primarily Miami and Tampa.

The taxpayers who fall victim to tax return ID theft often have to wait up to a year for the IRS to resolve the problem, and get the refund they deserve.

I have been emphasising the issue of ID theft to my clients because it is so prevalent,  and I have seen the terrible problems it causes to the victims.
